Living at Home Waiver
Our Most Vulnerable
The Living at Home Waiver (LAH) brings important improvements to Maryland’s Older Adult Waiver. Pursued by the Cross Disability Rights Coalition and supported by MM!MD, the LAH waiver continues Medicaid services to consumers with incomes up to 300% of the federal poverty level who wish to reside in home or community based settings instead of nursing homes. However, the LAH recognizes:- That 65 is the new 55, and older patients are now more active and wish to take advantage of the higher quality of life that comes with living in the community.
- That LAHW Case Management provides LAHW seniors in nursing homes or assisted living helps seniors obtain appropriate housing. In addition, case management can guide seniors through the application process, which is often the key to an effective transition.
That the LAHW provides more effective use of the money-follows-the-person provision in which Medicaid dollars meant for nursing home services are repurposed to provide these services to eligible consumers who choose to live in the community.
Urge your representatives to provide more community slots so that seniors and disabled consumers living in long-term care facilities can be cared for at home at a pronounced lower cost.
